Jim was born in Dallas, Texas. However, he spent his childhood in Ivory Coast, West Africa, as a missionary kid. Mr. Darnell has lived on four continents and has visited over 20 countries. He can speak and write fluently in English, French, and Spanish.

Jim has pastored three churches and serves as a missionary to Ivory Coast. Mr. and Mrs. Darnell are building churches and homes for pastors in Ivory Coast and supplying French Bibles, musical instruments, along with paying for seminary tuition, weddings, and funerals. They won the 2024 - Communitas Award - Philanthropy - Community Service for Funding the Ministry in Ivory Coast, West Africa.

Jim is a multi-award winning Author and has won 94 international book awards. His book: Because of You, I Lost Everything!; Lightning Butterflies; Schoolhouse Dogs; Job's Victories A Devotional,; and Behind School Walls.
